Job Purpose
The successful Candidate will be to perform scientific tests and experiments accurately and efficiently to support research, quality control, or diagnostic processes.to prepare samples, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, record and analyze data, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards to facilitate reliable and valid results that contribute to the organization's objectives.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and issues quality control reports and communicates this to the wider distillery team
- Captures analytical data on the laboratory information databases and maintain such databases in a manner to facilitate the easy auditing thereof.
- Calibration of all analytical instruments in the laboratory.
- Prepare reference standards used for analysis.
- Assist in the validation of laboratory equipment and test procedures.
- Problem-solve and investigate out of specification results.
- Operate, maintain and do troubleshooting on laboratory instrumentation.
- Perform non-routine testing when required.
- Proper control of stock of chemicals and Reagents and inform manager to re-order before stock of chemical runs out.
- Participates in the preparation and updating of Quality Control related standard operating procedures, ensuring that the quality systems comply with the requirements of various regulatory bodies that the distillery subscribes to.
- Perform physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on various samples in accordance with approved SOPs and standards.
- Prepare reagents, calibrate equipment, and verify instrument performance before analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, test results, calculations, and observations.
- Validate results and flag any out-of-specification findings to supervisors for immediate attention.
- Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments (e.g., pH meters, spectrophotometers, incubators, titrators).
- Follow quality control measures including blanks, standards, duplicates, and calibration checks.
- Ensure safe sample handling, chemical disposal, and adherence to laboratory safety rules (PPE, labelling, MSDS compliance).
- Participate in method development, inter-laboratory comparisons, and internal quality audits.
- Carries out any other duties relating to the laboratory.
- Provide reliable and validated test results to support operations, production, quality assurance, and environmental teams.
- Communicate test delays, abnormalities, or non-conforming results to relevant stakeholders promptly.
- Collaborate with process owners or supervisors to interpret results and recommend follow-up testing if needed.
- Ensure that all operations are carried out as per ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System at distillery to achieve the quality standards.
- Deliver timely and accurate test results to reduce rework, process delays, and product quality deviations.
- Use reagents, standards, and consumables responsibly to reduce waste and manage operating costs.
- Support stock management by tracking reagent usage and alerting the supervisor before depletion.
- Minimize retesting or failed analyses by strictly following approved test methods and good laboratory practices..
- Train new employees or interns in proper lab techniques and safety protocols.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive team culture that prioritizes safety, accuracy, and professionalism.
- Proactively report equipment malfunctions, safety risks, or process inefficiencies to supervisors.
- Demonstrate accountability, discipline, and integrity in all laboratory tasks and interactions.
Qualifications And Experience
- Diploma/Degree in Science, Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Technology or related fields
- 1-2years of experience in a laboratory setting, inspections, and quality control procedures in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments
- Knowledge of laboratory management systems or software
- Computer skills
